To me, writing a song feels like making something out of nothing.
It is the process of gathering my experiences in life and transmuting them into a fully realized piece of art. The song then becomes an intangible thing, something you cannot touch but can only experience. Throughout my life, music has always kept me company and made me feel that I am never alone.
I started singing when I was eight years old, and I quickly fell in love with the opportunity to be exuberant. This was also when I was in my first musical. Performing has never ceased to give me such gusto for life.
The music I write is a mix of indie folk, pop, and alternative rock. My sound is influenced by the many genres I grew up around in addition to those: punk rock, Motown, jazz, country, hip hop, R & B, soul, classic rock, and electronic. I was lucky enough to have my musical taste influenced by the many sounds of Detroit, having grown up in the metro area. I also received influence from Canadian alt rock radio stations, having been so close to Windsor, Ontario.
At the age of 19, I moved to Philadelphia to study musical theatre at the University of the Arts. In Philly, I learned how to be an artist without shame. I stayed there for five more years after graduating, performing in professional musicals in Philly, New Jersey, and Delaware. Right before moving to Jersey City, I began the process of recording my first album of all original music at WRTI Studios. Philly will always be an artistic home for me, and I will forever be influenced by its grit.
